Written before the trip
 

TREK

My name is Anne Girardin and my friends call me “Moto Diva”. I have a plan, together with my motorcycle, to ride from North to South America, along the Continental Divide situated mainly in the Rocky Mountains in North America and the Andes in South America, separating the water flow between the Pacific basin and the Atlantic basin.

We will begin in Alaska crossing Canada and the USA. We will then ride through Mexico and the thin countries of Central America. Because of the impenetrable Darien Gap between Panama and Colombia, we will fly to Caracas, Venezuela (depending on the timing, the companions we are with and the political situation, we may fly to Quito, Ecuador). Finally, we will travel along the entire chain of the Andes all the way to the Cape Horn by Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina.

We will be riding a total of 32,000 km (20,000 miles) between June 2005 and New Years Eve 2006.

SPIRIT

I am going to Chase the Sun from north of the Artic Circle at the summer solstice when the sun never sleeps, to Tierra del Fuego where local culture always keep the land lighted with fires to navigate in this part of the world where fog and rain cover the land most days of the year.

I will follow the steps of the Siberian who came through the Bering Detroit more than 10,000 years ago and set up incredible civilizations fascinated by the game of planets and stars: Inuit, Anazazi, Aztecs, Mayas, Incas…! With my two-wheel companion, we are going to meet civilizations that never discovered the wheel.

We will cross two current worlds on the edge between poverty and health, purity and pollution, peace and war, capitalism and socialism.

Traversing between mountains and civilizations, like traversing in life between happiness and sadness, sunny days and stormy days, life and death… We humans, as adventurers, are always chasing for a better day!
